Winter Olympics: South Korea calls for North Korea to negotiate

South Korea has called for a high-level talks on January 9 with the arrival of North Korea in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

North Korea's President Kim Jong-din has called South Korea to make a statement on behalf of their country on behalf of Pyongyang for the tournament to be held in February in South Korea.

The South Korean Chancellor had earlier stated that it was an opportunity to improve tensions.

Speaking on Tuesday, South Korea's Minister for Reconciliation, Mr Cho Myung said that the two delegates will meet in Panmunjom, also known as the "Peace Village".

It is not yet known who will participate in the negotiations on January 9th. North Korea still has not responded.

The last high-level negotiations between the two countries took place in December 2015 in the Caspian Cooperative Region. No contract has been reached. The basic purpose and agenda for the meeting was not announced to the public.

Despite international sanctions, North Korea has rapidly improved their nuclear and armed forces over the past two years.

Frozen relationship moves

At a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Chancellor Moon J has welcomed Kim Jong-win's speech with the North Korean leader.

Moon has already said that the Olympics are a great opportunity to move towards peace.

South Korea's friendship with allies would continue, he said.

On Monday North Korean leader again threatened against the US. He said that the entire American country is under the target of North Korean weapons and that the button for nuclear weapon is always on its desk.

However, he gave South Korea a favorable issue. He said the frozen relationship should melt.

New Year gift

The Chairman of the Pyongyang Competition Coordinating Committee, Lee Hee-Piyom, said earlier that he was pleased to hear the news about North Korean participation in South Korean news agency Yonhapah.

"This is a New Year's gift," he said.

Two North Korean athletes who are eligible to participate in the Winter Olympic Games are Riyam-Day-oak and Kim Joo-chi.

Even if North Korea missed the official deadline to ensure participation in the Winter Olympics, these two skiing players will be able to take part in the invitation of the International Olympic Committee.
