800 Mahars who defeated 28 thousand marathas

In many places in Maharashtra, one of the violent clashes between Dalits and Marathas has died. The violence that began in Goregaon Bhima, Babal and Shikarpur became violent.

In the battle against Peshwa, on January 1, 1818, the Peshwa faction defeated at the Gerekov Bhima 200 years before the British rule. The Mahal Dalit people were in the British army.

The Dalit people are regularly paying homage to the victory pillar installed in Gorekov Bhima in the memory of the maharas who died during the war.

But the supporters of the Marathas are protesting against the support of the British.

The violence erupted in the attack on Dalit people who paid homage to the anniversary of the year 200. One was killed and many injured. Many of the vehicles were beaten in this incident. Dalit leaders were very excited about this victory of the British army because the Mahar community was considered to be untouchable in the East India Company's participation in the war.

This war is also known as the Gorekov war. According to information sources, 28 thousand marathas led by Peshwa II Bajirao were trying to attack Pune.

On the way they were attacked, they faced a battalion of the East India Company with 800 soldiers. It was going to increase the strength of British troops in Pune. Peshwa sent his two thousand soldiers to fight with the eastern army in Goregae.

Under the leadership of Captain Francis Stanton, the group of East India Company faced marrons for almost 12 hours. Marathas could not easily win. The reversal of the Maratha force was overturned by the Marathas. The reason for this retreat is the fear that the Maratha force would not be easy to win if a large British force led by General Joseph Smith led the situation.

Most of the soldiers of Indian descent in these troops were Mahars Dalham from Bombay Infantry. This is the reason for Dalit activists considering this war as an important part of Dalit history. The James Grand Duff mentioned the war in 'A History of the Mahrattas'. At about ten o'clock in the New Year's morning, they had halted 28 thousand Marathas on the shore of Bhima.

When they marched towards the river, the Peshwa's soldiers thought they wanted to cross the river, but they captured the surrounding part of the village and changed it to their state.

In this battle, Mahr Dalry's courage is mentioned in the book 'History of the Political and Military Transactions of India' by Henry T. The book was written by Brunescapton Stoneon when the battalion was heading to Pune. In order to avoid collapse in the slopes, this troop decided to establish its position in Gorega.

If these troops were trapped in the shadows, they could be trapped in the hands of the Marathas.

Historical commentaries on the number differ. 275 of the 834 soldiers in the company were killed, wounded or disappeared. These include two officers. At least 50 people were killed and 105 injured.
According to estimates by British officials, 500-600 Peshwa soldiers were killed or wounded in the fight.

The battle for identity

Some historians consider the war between the Mahars and the Peshwas as the war of the Indian rulers against foreign invaders. In fact it does not fail.

But as far as the mahars are concerned, they believe that this was a struggle for their identity rather than the war for the British.

In ancient India, the Peshwa rulers conducted the maharas as well as how the people were treated for 'untouchables'.

Historical researchers have provided a lot of information in many places. The mentors entering the city must have a stamp on their hips. Why do you know
They were treated as 'polluted and impure' because they walked on the streets and walked in their footsteps so that they had to go.

They should hang a bowl on their necks. What is that Because of the need to get rid of the saliva in a bowl in the neck, claiming that if they get rid of the mouth, they will be contaminated with spills on the streets.

They can not even imagine taking water from thirst and water in the village.

The historian and commentator Professor Rishikesh Kampli pointed to another side of Korekov Bhima. The Mahars did not defeat the Marathas, but they were the Brahmins.

Brahmins are the bulls who have stamped the stamp on the Dalits. The repression was imposed on them and angered the maharas. They joined the British army because the Brahmins did not agree with the demand to end the practice.

British troops trained the mahr and provided inspiration to fight against the Peshwas. It is a struggle against the Brahmins who are highly valued in the name of Maratha power. The defeats were defeated by them, in fact it was not a war against Maratha.

Contrary to the mahar and Marathis, the war is not to say that this war would not have happened if the Brahmins had completed the brutality of untouchability, saying that the background was not mentioned in history as history.

The name of the Marathas is in this battle because the Brahmins took away their value from the martyrs. Finally, the British army, which was trying to suppress the survival of the remaining Peshwa, built up the army of the Maharajas and ended Peshwa's rule.
