Most of the rail services have been canceled due to the strike being carried out by railway employees over the past two days.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Asoka Abeyasinghe said that the strike was causing lakhs of passengers.
Presidential Secretary Ostin Fernando has held discussions with the railway workers unions yesterday for the benefit of the passengers who have suffered for the last two days.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Ashoka Abeyasinghe said President Maithripala Sirisena signed the Gazette notification for transferring the service to the essential service.
A special press conference was organized today by Minister of Transport Nimal Siripala De Silva.
As the train service has been transformed into an essential service, he said the train workers involved in the strike should return to service today.
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that employees who do not return to service will be left out of the service.
The buses owned by the Sri Lanka Transport Board are also in service to all the cities until the re-service is restored.
The Chairman of the House Ramal Siriwardena said that the train would be able to travel to the Sri Lanka Transport Board by using the railways.
He also hopes that the bus service will continue till the return of the train service back to normal.
