Sri Lanka: Life imprisonment for killing elephants

The Cabinet sanctioned the idea of amendment to the Vanajivaras Ordinance Act, which allows the convicts to be found guilty of the killing of wild elephants. The Cabinet has given this approval to the proposal made by the Minister of Welfare, Gamini Jayawickrama Perera. Minister Rajitha Sen Said Rathna.

He mentioned this when participating in the weekly media briefing on the Cabinet decisions.

He said the number of wild elephants and wildlife in Sri Lanka would be a joint workshop for the conservation of forest resources, police officers and security forces.

The Cabinet has also approved the proposals for obtaining the forest conservation department and the co-workers of the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka.
