Reservation for Sri Lankan Women - Will Political Parties Be Powerful?

In 1931, both men and women received equal rights in Sri Lanka before women were granted voting rights in many European countries.
But 85 years have passed and women's participation in politics in Sri Lanka is still far behind compared to other South Asian countries.
5.8% in Parliament (Sri Lanka is the seventh and seventh in the world rank: Source Inter-Parliamentary Union March 2016) and Local Council 1.8%.
A new electoral system for local councils has been introduced by the Act No. 16 of 2017 in response to decades of female activists and women organizations demanding this status.
It is a sweet news that 25% reservation is confirmed for women. This method is a motivation for women to get involved in politics. It will not be needed after a few decades.
Local governing elections will be a great opportunity for all political parties to implement this law in the coming months of the month. Many women are preparing to jump on the field. The electoral set is a hot time.
Why Women's Contribution Is Important?
However, the role of women in politics is important is that many are still a mystery. In Sri Lanka, more than half of the country's population (52%) are women.

For instance, if the number of circles of a congregation is 12, it will be 60 percent, and a maximum of 40 percent will be added to 08 members and total membership will be 20.
The first nomination is the nomination petition to nominate candidates for names.
Candidates should nominate candidates for each region in this nomination. At least 10% of these people must be women.

Second nomination
The number of persons with equal number of members who have to be proportionally elected to the second nomination will have to be added and the names of 03 persons are added and names.
50 per cent of them must be women.
Appointment of female member
The 25th percentage of women's seats allocated to the concerned council will be confirmed as the national list is determined after the parliamentary election on the basis of proportional votes of other parties.
