Reservation for Sri Lankan Women - Will Political Parties Be Powerful?

In 1931, both men and women received equal rights in Sri Lanka before women were granted voting rights in many European countries.
But 85 years have passed and women's participation in politics in Sri Lanka is still far behind compared to other South Asian countries.
5.8% in Parliament (Sri Lanka is the seventh and seventh in the world rank: Source Inter-Parliamentary Union March 2016) and Local Council 1.8%.
A new electoral system for local councils has been introduced by the Act No. 16 of 2017 in response to decades of female activists and women organizations demanding this status.
It is a sweet news that 25% reservation is confirmed for women. This method is a motivation for women to get involved in politics. It will not be needed after a few decades.
Local governing elections will be a great opportunity for all political parties to implement this law in the coming months of the month. Many women are preparing to jump on the field. The electoral set is a hot time.
Why Women's Contribution Is Important?
However, the role of women in politics is important is that many are still a mystery. In Sri Lanka, more than half of the country's population (52%) are women.
Um, as all the parties in Sri Lanka are women and girls piratinituttuvappatutta women enjoy their political rights are cooked through.
Are you backing politics?
There are a number of reasons why the women who are shining in all spheres are behind politics. Important is the family responsibility imposed on her. The women who are particularly involved in politics are not able to look after the family and are very emotionally tied to women. The whole girl is staying in the lady when she comes to work and goes to work for her family in the family economy.
This is a major factor in preventing women from being sexually abused by women, but criticizing women's behavior. It is a bitter truth that a family, the dignity of her community or ethnicity, has been implicated in women.
The next mainstream violence is violence politics. The previous election system (preferential vote) was one reason. In fact, violence against women is one of the factors that prevent women from engaging in politics. Many of the events in Sri Lanka are proof of this.
All this is expected to reduce the regional electoral system significantly. In this electoral system, 60 percent of the members of the local council are elected on regional basis and 40 percent of the members are proportional.
25 percent of the total members are female members. The total membership of the Board will be determined based on the number of areas already announced in the Gazette. That means, 60 percent of the already declared areas will be added, plus 40 percent plus the amount will be determined.
For instance, if the number of circles of a congregation is 12, it will be 60 percent, and a maximum of 40 percent will be added to 08 members and total membership will be 20.
The first nomination is the nomination petition to nominate candidates for names.
Candidates should nominate candidates for each region in this nomination. At least 10% of these people must be women.

Second nomination
The number of persons with equal number of members who have to be proportionally elected to the second nomination will have to be added and the names of 03 persons are added and names.
50 per cent of them must be women.
Appointment of female member
The 25th percentage of women's seats allocated to the concerned council will be confirmed as the national list is determined after the parliamentary election on the basis of proportional votes of other parties. In this case, female members can be appointed by the party's secretary from any of the two nominations. Here the full power is in the hand of the secretary of the party.
Around this year, more than 2,000 women have been convinced by local government elections.
But, in the field of gender, the women who are selected are in the right order and it is doubtful that the list 1, list 2 and 25% will be included in the list. There are many practical issues. In these lists there are fears that their relative women or women who do not question themselves, or women who do not live in the country
The first reason is that each party has more than one organizers in each constituency. They have made and listened to different women. No one knows what party organizer will be chosen by the party secretary. Thus all party women are in confusion.
The second Women's winnable circuit compete permit her party more votes, unattainable in the region compete to keep the risk that occurs with this procedure is complex, right to respecting democracy, good governance, the characteristics do not understand law and order, respect, racism, communalism speaking women in politics, entreating Gutter Cleaning politics without fear of being compelled to move the task was unable to prevent.
The community that involves women who are most likely to have a low degree of violence and extreme tolerance.
In Sri Lanka, which mainly has a war-torn community, it is not without the representation of women's local councils to provide a solution to the problems of war victims.
In particular, the parties in the Northeast have no doubt that reconciliation, peace and genuine social development and the relief for the victims of the war will soon be available.
So let all parties understand the importance of women's participation and believe that women who have the right skills are properly transparent and will make way for the good of the country.
