Sri Lanka: 1991 seats for women in local councils

The 25 percent representation for women in local councils in Sri Lanka has been given to 341 local councils and at least a 1991 female women's choice.
The municipal local authority bodies as a circular and proportion are required to have at least 10% regional and 50% of the proportional lists in the nomination papers of the political party or the independent body. Otherwise the nomination will be rejected.
The number of members elected to 341 local councils - 24 municipalities, 41 municipalities and 276 regional councils - is 8356.
The Gazette Notification has been issued to the number of female representatives representing 25 percent of the local population to be selected by the Election Commission for regional and proportional purposes.

At the same time, 70 political parties in Sri Lanka have been named as recognized parties by the Election Commission.
